What is obagi blue peel radiance peel?
Blue peel radiance is a speciality chemical peel available only through prescribers. The peel is ideal for refreshing and lightening dull looking skin. The treatment is used for fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation changes due to acne, uneven skin tone, laxity and texture issues and light melasma. The treatment can boost the outcome of the transformation systems.
How does it work?
The blue peel radiance contains salicylic acid as well as a blend of lactic and glycolic acid . The solution penetrates into the skin causing dead cells in the skin to peel off ‘out with the old’, while new skin is smoother and more refined-looking ‘in with the new.’ The Obagi Nu-derm System works at a cellular level improving skin cell function. The products work at a deeper level in the dermis rather than the surface like many products on the high street. Environment factors can affect the cells ability to renew itself. Dry uneven skin texture results in slow cell turnover depriving moisture at the stratum corneum due to properties of the skin evolving. Pigmentation occurs due to damage from exposure to sunlight. Fine lines, wrinkles and sagging occurs when collagen and elastic breaks down. The Obagi Nu-derm system penetrates deep into the dermis to accelerate skin cell turnover resulting in a younger, healthier look. The system is only available to prescribers due to its active ingredients which work to bring new skin cells to the surface, reduce hyper-pigmentation, promote uniform cells deep in the dermis, improve circulation and boost collagen and elastic production. This results in reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, helps with pigmentation and even skin tone, hydrates skin and gives a glowing look. There are also other transformation systems available. For anti-aging, the Nu-derm system contains tretinoin which is clinically proven to address signs of anti-aging. For acne vulgaris treatment, the Nu-derm system which contains tretinoin cream is indicated. Alternatively the Clenziderm MD system is also suitable for mild to moderate inflammatory or non-inflammatory acne. For hyper-pigmentation, a range of transformation systems can be recommended depending on whether the pigmentation is mild, moderate or severe. For Rosacea, the Rosaclear system with Metronidazole would be suitable.
How long does it take to see the full effect?
Results can be seen immediately. For the blue peel radiance, beautiful results can be seen after one application. A series of 4-6 peels are recommended every 2-6 weeks for optimal results. A sun shield SPF is recommended to protect the skin from the sun. The blue peel radiance boosts outcomes of other transformation systems. For the Nu-derm transformation system as well as other transformation systems, the Obagi treatment is a new religion for the skin and therefore, for a full skin transformation an 18-24 week programme is recommended after which a maintenance programme is required 1-2 times a week. At the first 6 weeks, old skin cells are renewed with new layer. At 6-12 weeks, new skin cells continue to be stimulated and there is an increase in production of collagen and elastin. At 12-18 weeks, the skin looks healthier due to its new structure. At 18-24 weeks, the skin has fully transformed and requires maintenance.
